Dr. Richard Damiano is a renowned corneal and refractive surgeon. He has been a pioneer in advanced treatment technologies. Dr. Damiano has had a distinguished career and is considered a leader in the field of ophthalmology. He was the first physician in the state of Colorado to perform radial keratotomy and is considered one of the pioneers of the surgery in the United States. Dr. Damiano also developed the only surgical technique to correct hyperopia, or far-sightedness, that can occur following radial keratotomy, and has developed the only surgical technique that reliably corrects the hyperopia that may occur following radial keratotomy. This surgical procedure strengthens the peripheral cornea, stabilizes fluctuating vision and reduces far-sightedness and irregular astigmatism. This technique has been employed for over twenty years and the results were reported in the peer reviewed Journal of Refractive Surgery (Vol. 14:408-413, Jul/Aug, 1998). His interest in natural visual functioning both near and far without glasses has resulted in a patented reading enhancement device that effectively stops the loss of near vision with aging.
Dr. Damiano is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He graduated from Duke University School of Medicine and completed his internship at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and his residency in Ophthalmology at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Damiano served as an ophthalmologist in the U.S. Army for two years before completing a fellowship in corneal and external disease at The Medical College of Wisconsin.
